Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay

Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay

Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay

People have long build artificial dam to force the river to turn the turbines and produce energy. British project envisages construction of a dam that will block not riverbed and marine lagoon, which will cause tidal waves to generate electricity.
Swansea Bay in Wales - a unique place where at high tide the sea level rises by 8.5 meters. Huge masses of water move regularly, but still useless.
The authors of the project propose to close the lagoon dam and send the whole mass of water in one bottleneck. There will be located electric turbines with a total capacity of 320 MW, capable of providing energy to 155,000 households.

Среди всех видов зелёной энергии энергия приливных волн одна из наиболее привлекательных.

A study conducted in 2011 by scientists from the California and Stanford University shows that our planet can completely switch to clean, renewable energy over the next 20 - 40 years.
Among all types of green energy tidal energy is one of the most attractive. In Britain, which many consider the world leader in marine energy, confident that due to tides can provide about 20% of current energy needs.
While tidal power cost is quite expensive, but as the technology matures, it is improving and becoming cheaper. Reduce costs make tidal energy a viable from a commercial point of view.
Swansea Bay is planned to fence off part of the Gulf of man-made dam length of about 9.5 km. To move the mass of water will be left aisle width of 550 meters, which will accommodate up to 26 turbines.

В дополнение к чистой энергии, Суонси Бэй получит защищённый от открытого моря участок залива, который может стать центром отдыха, развлечений, культуры, искусства и образования.

Most of the day, 14 hours, the turbine will rotate the tidal ebb and tide, producing about 90% of the energy consumed in the region today. This will close the existing power plants running on fossil fuels and reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 236,000 tons annually.
It is expected that a strong tidal power will be included in the national network in 2018 and will last at least 120 years.
In addition to the clean energy, Swansea Bay will get protected from the open sea portion of the bay, which can become a center of recreation, entertainment, culture, art and education. The entire complex will provide the local population more jobs and stimulate economic development.
Currently, "electric" lagoon is considered as an infrastructure project of national importance. It is expected that at the beginning of 2015 the project will be given the necessary licenses for the design and conduct of marine operations.
